I created the Titan Violins project to share music with those who do not have access to traditional expensive violins. I am really proud of this project growing to the point where I can give these violins away. I hope these 3D printed violins will inspire and foster creativity in those who are touched by this project.
I was given the chance to donate one of my 3D printed violins to a cafeteria worker at my high school. Her daughter was turning eight years old and she could not afford to giver her a traditional wooden violin. Giving her the ability to pass the tradition of music off to her daughter. It was very rewarding to see my project give someone the opportunity to explore music. Printing the violin in pink because that is her favorite color.
I wanted to make sure that I could give her the violin before her birthday. I was able to give her the new design which was lighter, louder, and better sounding. I sliced the models in PrusaSlicer and exported the GCODE to an SD card.

The next step was to 3D print the parts that make the violin. Printing all the parts in pink except the neck in black.

I then gathered the tuners, carbon fiber rod, strings, and a chin rest. Once the violin was finished printing I took off the remaining support and glued the bodies together. Then installing the dove tail joint creating a more stable connection. The violin is designed to be put together like LEGOS. The carbon fiber rod adds support to the violin preventing it from collapsing. The rod slides through a chamber on the top plate. When the strings are installed there is 20 lbs of force trying to bend the violin and rip the layers apart. The rod counteracts this from happening. After stringing the instrument I installed the chin rest for comfort.

My partner George and I gave the violin to Su with my engineering teacher Mr. Sinde. It was really fun to see her amazed by the violin that we made for her daughter. Her daughter was extremely excited to get a pink violin!
